Custom Spout Pouches, Printed and Made in Vietnam
A spout pouch is a laminated pouch fitted with a plastic spout and screw cap, so liquids and viscous products can be poured, then closed again many times. Brands use spout pouches instead of bottles and jugs, or as refill packs for a bottle the customer already owns. Dong Vu Packaging prints, laminates and converts custom spout pouches and fits the spouts in our own factory in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Spout pouch vs bottle: what changes
A spout pouch does the same job as a bottle or jug with far less material. Empty pouches lie flat and stack tightly in cartons, and the whole surface can carry your print.
| Criterion | Spout pouch | Bottle or jug |
|---|---|---|
| Empty, before filling | Lies flat, stacks tightly in cartons | Keeps its shape, takes space in transport and storage |
| Decoration | Rotogravure print over the pouch body, up to 10 colors | Label, sleeve or print on the bottle |
| Pouring and closing | Plastic spout and screw cap, reclosable many times | Bottle cap or jug lid |
| Volumes we make | About 100 ml – 5 litres | Set by the bottle mould |
| Typical use | Sold as the main pack or as a refill for an existing bottle | Reused and refilled from pouches |
A spout set at an angle on the top corner lets the customer tilt the pouch and pour neatly into the old bottle.

4 spout pouch formats
We make four formats: stand-up, flat, 3-side seal and 4-side (box) spout pouches. The format decides whether the pouch stands on the shelf and how much it holds. The spout is always fitted on the upper part of the pouch – we do not make pouches with a bottom dispensing tap.
| Format | What it is | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Stand-up spout pouch | Bottom gusset opens when filled, so the pouch stands | All volumes from 100 ml to 5 L; detergent refills |
| Flat spout pouch | No bottom gusset; both faces lie flat when empty | Small single-use packs such as drinking jelly and juice |
| 3-side seal spout pouch | Sealed on 3 edges, no gussets, uses the least film | Small retail packs used up in a few servings |
| 4-side spout pouch | Four corner seals form a box shape when full | Pouches of several litres that must stand firmly and pack neatly in cartons |
Flat and 3-side seal pouches lie flat, so they suit small volumes. For several litres, choose a stand-up or 4-side spout pouch so it stands while pouring. The spout position on each format is fixed on the approved sample.

Materials: clear, aluminium foil and retort spout pouches
By material, spout pouches fall into three groups: clear plastic pouches without foil, aluminium foil pouches, and retort pouches with an RCPP inner layer. The material decides whether the product is visible or protected from light, and whether the pouch can be sterilised.
| Type | Common structures (outside → inside) | Key property |
|---|---|---|
| Clear plastic spout pouch | PET12/PE, PET12/PA15/PE, PA15/PE, PET/PA/white PE | Clear, fully printed, printed with a window, or milky white |
| Aluminium foil spout pouch | PET12/AL6/PE, PET12/AL6/PA15/PE; metallized PET12/MPET12/PE | AL foil blocks almost all light and oxygen; MPET blocks most of it |
| Retort spout pouch | PET12/AL6/RCPP75, PET12/AL6/PA15/RCPP; PET12/RCPP, PET/PA/RCPP, PA15/RCPP75 | RCPP inner layer withstands retort sterilisation |
PET is a 12 µm polyester print film. PA is 15 µm nylon – tough and puncture resistant. AL is 6 µm aluminium foil. PE is the inner sealing layer, with thickness set by the volume; white PE is milky white. RCPP is a retortable CPP film, 75 or 90 µm. These are the structures we run most often, not a fixed list – we adjust the number of layers and thickness to your product.

Spouts and screw caps
We heat-seal the spout into the pouch and fit the screw cap in our factory. Spouts come in two groups:
| Spout | Diameter (mm) | Usual position | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small spout | 8.6 – 10 | Center of the top edge | Drinking jelly, juice, products sipped straight from the spout |
| Large spout | 16 – 22 | Angled on the top corner | Laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid, sauces, viscous products |
A large spout pours viscous products faster than a small one. Each spout size has its own screw cap, chosen for how thick your product is. We test-pour your real product in a sample pouch before the spout type is confirmed. Your quote lists the spout and cap separately from the pouch.

Choosing the film structure for your product
Small pouches of light products use PET12/PE; pouches of several litres add a PA layer; products that need light protection add aluminium foil; retort products use an RCPP inner layer. We confirm the structure after filling your real product in a sample pouch.
| Product | What matters | Suggested structure |
|---|---|---|
| Juice, drinking jelly | No leaks at the spout base | PET12/PE (small pouches) or PET12/PA15/PE |
| Laundry detergent, fabric softener | Film resists detergents; large pouches do not burst if dropped | PET12/PA15/PE, PE thickness set by volume |
| Dishwashing liquid | Layers do not separate in contact with detergent | PET12/PA15/PE |
| Shampoo and shower gel refills | Keeps the fragrance; light barrier for essential oils | PET12/PA15/PE or PET12/AL6/PA15/PE |
| Sauces and concentrates | Keeps flavor; light barrier for products that change color | PET12/PA15/PE or PET12/AL6/PA15/PE |
| Liquid fertiliser, chemicals | The liquid must not delaminate the film | PET12/PA15/PE or PET12/AL6/PA15/PE |
| Retort (sterilised) food | Inner layer withstands retort temperature | PET12/AL6/RCPP75 or PET/PA/RCPP |
Detergents, essential oils and solvents can separate laminate layers over time, and formulas differ between manufacturers. That is why we test each product in a sample spout pouch before printing.
Spout pouch sizes: from 100 ml to 5 litres
Pouch size and PE thickness are set by the volume. The bigger the pouch, the more it needs a PA layer, a large corner spout and a carry handle.
| Volume | Suggested format | Suggested spout | Suggested structure |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100 – 500 ml | Flat, 3-side seal or small stand-up pouch | Small 8.6–10 mm, center top | PET12/PE or PET12/PA15/PE |
| 1 – 2 litres | Stand-up or 4-side pouch | Large 16–22 mm, angled corner | PET12/PA15/PE |
| 3 – 5 litres | Stand-up or 4-side pouch with a handle cut-out | Large 16–22 mm, angled corner | PET12/PA15/PE with thicker PE |
At the same volume, viscous or heavy products need a thicker PE layer. Send us a sample of your product: we fill it to the exact volume in a sample pouch before fixing the pouch size.

Printing, minimum order and lead time
Spout pouches are printed by rotogravure only: minimum one 6,000 m film roll, 15–21 days in production, quoted to your specification. Rotogravure prints 1–10 colors, one engraved cylinder per color, at up to 250 m/min.
- Share one roll across designs: designs with the same pouch size and film thickness can be ganged on one roll – for example four detergent fragrances at about 1,500 m of film each. How many pouches each design gets depends on the number of designs and the pouch size.
- Repeat orders: printing cylinders are stored at our factory, so re-orders of the same design need no new cylinders.
- No stock pouches: every spout pouch is made to your specification; plain, unprinted spout pouches also start from one 6,000 m roll.
- Tolerances: delivered quantity ±10%; total thickness ±5 µm.

5 mistakes to avoid when ordering spout pouches
| Mistake | What happens | How to prevent it |
|---|---|---|
| Flat pouch for several litres | Pouch will not stand on the shelf and is hard to pour | Use a stand-up or 4-side spout pouch |
| No PA layer in a multi-litre pouch | Pouch bursts when dropped or stacked | Use PET12/PA15/PE and increase the PE thickness |
| Clear pouch for a light-sensitive product | Product changes color or smell on the shelf | Use an aluminium foil spout pouch |
| Chemical product not tested in a sample | Layers separate or leak at the spout base after some time | Fill your real product in a sample before printing in volume |
| PE inner layer for retort food | Inner layer cannot withstand retort temperature | Use an RCPP 75 or 90 µm inner layer |
Frequently asked questions
What is a spout pouch?
A spout pouch is a laminated pouch with a plastic spout and screw cap for pouring and reclosing. A spout pouch with a bottom gusset is called a stand-up spout pouch. When it is used to refill an existing bottle, it is often called a refill pouch.
Can you print a small quantity of spout pouches?
Spout pouches are printed by rotogravure only, with a minimum of one 6,000 m film roll. Several designs of the same size can share one roll, so each design needs less film.
Do you sell stock spout pouches?
No. Every spout pouch is made to your specification. Plain, unprinted spout pouches also start from one 6,000 m film roll, and the spouts and caps are fitted at our factory.
Do you make pouches with a bottom dispensing tap?
No. Our spouts are fitted on the upper part of the pouch – at the center of the top edge or angled on the top corner – and closed with a screw cap after each pour.
Are your spout pouches food safe?
Yes. Food spout pouches use a PE or RCPP inner layer in contact with the product, and the print sits between the laminated layers. We provide food-contact safety test reports on request. Our quality management system was certified to ISO 9001:2015 for the 2023–2026 period.
Can I get sample spout pouches?
Yes. We send free sample pouches so you can fill your real product and check the spout, cap and seals; the courier cost is confirmed with your quote.
