Custom Stand-Up Zipper Pouches, Printed and Made in Vietnam
A stand-up zipper pouch (also called a doypack) is a laminated pouch with a folded bottom gusset that opens when filled, so the pouch stands on the shelf, and a press-to-close zipper that reseals after every use. Why brands switch from jars and boxes to stand-up pouches
A stand-up zipper pouch replaces a rigid jar or carton because it stands on its own, carries a full-bleed print on both faces and recloses with a zipper. Empty pouches ship and store flat, so they take far less warehouse space than jars of the same volume. The multi-layer laminate blocks moisture, oxygen and light to the level your product needs.
- Stands on the shelf: the bottom gusset opens when filled and turns the front panel into a large label facing the shopper.
- Reclosable: the zipper lets customers use part of the product and seal the pouch again.
- Light and flat-packed: empty pouches stack flat in cartons, cutting freight and storage space.
- Printed edge to edge: rotogravure up to 10 colors covers the front and back panels.
A stand-up pouch has an oval base and a body that tapers towards the top. If you need a box shape with two printable side gussets, see our flat-bottom (box) pouches – minimum one 12,000 m film roll.
Film structures and barrier for stand-up zipper pouches
Our stand-up zipper pouches are usually laminated from 2–3 films with a total thickness of 100–125 µm. The outer PET or OPP film carries the print, the middle MPET or aluminium foil layer blocks oxygen and light, and the inner PE or CPP layer seals the pouch and holds the zipper. We specify the structure for the product you pack.
- Outer (print) layer: PET 12 µm or OPP 20/30/40 µm. Rotogravure prints on the reverse side, so the ink sits sealed between layers. Gloss or matte finish.
- Middle (barrier) layer: MPET 12 µm (metallized PET) blocks most oxygen, moisture and light; aluminium foil 6 µm blocks almost all of it; PA (nylon) 15 µm adds toughness for liquids and vacuum packing.
- Inner (sealant) layer: PE 30–200 µm or CPP 25–75 µm. Retort (sterilised) pouches need an RCPP 75 or 90 µm inner layer.
| Product | Suggested structure (outside → inside, µm) | Total thickness (µm) | Product visible? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Loose tea, tea bags | PET12 / MPET12 / PE | 100–125 | No (metallized) |
| Candy, cookies, dried fruit | PET12 / PE108 or PET12 / MPET12 / PE | 120; 100–125 | PET/PE: yes · MPET: no |
| Jerky, oily nuts and snacks | PET12 / MPET12 / PE | 100–125 | No |
| Roasted coffee | PET12 / MPET12 / PE or PET12 / AL6 / PE80 | 100–125; about 100 | No |
| Sauces, soup bases, liquid soap | PA15 / PE | Set by fill weight | Yes, clear |
| Retort (sterilised) food | PET12 / AL6 / RCPP75 | About 93 | No (foil) |
| Cosmetic powders, bath salts | PET12 / MPET12 / PE or PET12 / AL6 / PE | 100–125 | No |
OTR and WVTR measure how much oxygen and water vapour pass through 1 m² of film per day – the lower, the better the barrier. One 71 µm MPET laminate sample produced at our factory measured OTR 0.69 cc/m²·day and WVTR 0.29 g/m²·day. This is a single test result, not a value for every MPET structure; we test your specification on request.

5 types of stand-up zipper pouch
| Type | Typical structure (µm) | Product visible? |
|---|---|---|
| Clear | PET12 / PE108 (120); OPP / CPP | Yes, whole pouch |
| Metallized or foil | PET12 / MPET12 / PE (100–125); PET12 / AL6 / PE80 (about 100) | No |
| Kraft paper | Kraft / PE, kraft / MPET / PE, kraft / AL / PE | No, unless windowed |
| With window | PET / PE or OPP / CPP, fully printed with an unprinted window | Yes, through the window |
| Clear front, metallized back | Clear film front, MPET or foil back | Yes, through the front |
- Clear pouches show the whole product – ideal for nuts, dried fruit and colourful candy that sell fast. They have no light barrier, so they are not suited to oily products stored for long periods.
- Metallized and foil pouches are the choice for coffee, tea, jerky and anything sensitive to oxygen, moisture or light.
- Kraft pouches use brown or white kraft paper of 40–120 g/m² laminated to PE, MPET/PE or AL/PE. Rotogravure prints directly on the paper; windows are cut in the paper before lamination.
- Window pouches are printed on clear film with a white backing and a window left unprinted. Pouches with an MPET or foil layer cannot have a window.

Options: valve, hang hole, tear notch and more
Choose these details with your specification so the artwork leaves room for them:
- Hang hole: punched above the zipper so the pouch hangs on retail pegs.
- Rounded corners: stop sharp corners scratching other pouches in the carton.
- Tear notch: small cuts on both edges above the zipper for easy opening by hand.
- One-way degassing valve: lets CO₂ from freshly roasted coffee escape without letting air in. See coffee bags with valve.
- Custom die-cut shape: the top or body is cut to follow your product’s shape with a dedicated die.
- Surface: gloss or matte, chosen when you approve the print file.
Sizes we make
We make stand-up zipper pouches 9–30 cm wide (3.5–11.8 in), 16–45 cm high (6.3–17.7 in) with a 6–14 cm bottom gusset (2.4–5.5 in); the folded gusset is 3–7 cm and the maximum web width is 1 m. Within these limits we produce exactly the size you specify.
| Fill weight (dry, granular) | Common size: width × height + gusset (cm) |
|---|---|
| 100–200 g | 12 × 19 + 10 |
| 200–300 g | 15 × 22 + 10 |
| 300–500 g | 18 × 26 + 10 |
| 500 g – 1 kg | 22 × 30 + 10; 22 × 32 + 10 |
Other popular sizes are 20 × 28 + 10 and 25 × 35 + 10 cm. Bulky products such as leaf tea or wafer rolls need a bigger pouch than granular products of the same weight, so we recommend confirming the final size with a sample pouch and your real product.

Printing: 10-color rotogravure, MOQ one 6,000 m roll
We print stand-up pouches on rotogravure presses with up to 10 colors – CMYK, a white base and your spot colors, one cylinder per color – at up to 250 m/min with automatic registration. Colors are approved at the press in our factory.
- Minimum order: one film roll of 6,000 m. How many pouches that gives depends on your size – send the dieline and we will calculate it.
- Share one roll across designs: designs with the same size and film thickness can be ganged on one set of cylinders, e.g. four designs of about 1,500 m each.
- Repeat orders: printing cylinders are stored at our factory, so re-orders of the same design need no new cylinders.
- Lead time: 15–21 days from approval of the print file and color proof, cylinder engraving included.
- Tolerances: delivered quantity ±10%; total thickness ±5 µm.

5 specification mistakes to avoid
| Mistake | What you see | How to prevent it |
|---|---|---|
| Gusset too narrow for the pouch height | Pouch tips over when partly full | Use a wider gusset or a shorter pouch; test a sample with real product |
| Film too thin for heavy or liquid products | Leaks where the gusset meets the side seals | Increase total thickness; use a PA layer for liquids |
| Powder, sugar or oil on the zipper | Zipper will not close, top seal opens | Fill below the zipper and keep the mouth clean before sealing |
| Clear pouch for oily products stored long | Product turns rancid or changes color early | Choose PET12/MPET12/PE or PET12/AL6/PE80 |
| Size chosen from a photo, not tested | Pouch too tight to zip, or too loose and slumped | Weigh the fill and test a same-size sample before printing |
Frequently asked questions
Can a stand-up zipper pouch hold liquids?
Yes, with a structure that includes a PA layer such as PA15/PE, with the PE thickness set by the fill weight. PA/PE stand-up pouches hold sauces, soup bases and liquid soap. For products poured out many times, a spout pouch is a better choice.
What is the difference between a stand-up pouch and a flat-bottom pouch?
A stand-up pouch has an oval base and a body that tapers towards the top. A flat-bottom (box) pouch has a flat rectangular base and two printable side gussets. Flat-bottom pouches start from one 12,000 m film roll; stand-up pouches from one 6,000 m roll.
Do you sell stock stand-up pouches?
No. Every order is made to your specification. Plain, unprinted pouches also start from one 6,000 m film roll.
Which industries use stand-up zipper pouches?
Mostly dry food: nuts, dried fruit, snacks, confectionery, tea, coffee and jerky. They are also used for pet treats, spices, supplements, cosmetic powders and bath salts.
Can stand-up pouches be vacuum packed?
Yes, with a PA structure such as PA15/PE85 (100 µm). The vacuum sealer seals above the zipper; once the pouch is opened it no longer holds the vacuum. See our vacuum and retort pouches.
Are your pouches food safe?
Yes. The inner layer that touches your product is PE or CPP, and the print sits between the laminated layers. We provide food-contact safety test reports on request. Our quality management system was certified to ISO 9001:2015 for the 2023–2026 period.
